TRANSITION AREA NOTES
__________________________
The race transition area is organized based on your assigned race number. Each bike rack ROW is also marked with a sign to help you find your row as you complete your swim-to-bike and bike-to-run transitions.
The Olympic and Sprint swim courses are both point-to-point swims. With the Olympic swim beginning at the Manker Patten Tennis Center. Athletes will be taken to the swim start via shuttles from the main staging area. Sprint racers will walk to the swim start at the boat dock under the Market Street Bridge. Both race distances will finish just before the City Pier.
Olympic Shuttle Bus Loading Schedule (Sprint start is walking distance from transition)
Bag Drop Info: A bag drop will be available at both swim starts for you to leave your personal belongings. These items must be in the bag provided to you at packet pick up, clearly marked with your name and race bib number. These items will be available for pick up in the Transition Area at the conclusion of your race.
There will be no moving up in swim order on race day; however, racers are allowed to move further back in line. Pre-register by the Wednesday night before the race to get a spot in the swim order. All registrants after that time will have the UPPER numbers and start at the rear.
The swim will be conducted in a time-trial fashion. Race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time. A racer will enter the water approximately every 3 seconds. USA Triathlon Wet Suit Rules:
Article 4.4: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards.
OLYMPIC BIKE MAP MY RIDE COURSE
SPRINT BIKE MAP MY RIDE COURSE
Olympic 40k | Sprint 20k
The sprint bike course is 20k out and back on Riverside Drive and Amnicola Hwy. The Olympic course is two loops of the sprint course. Bikes will be using the inside lanes of this four-lane road, with cones providing separation from traffic. The course will be controlled by local police.
NOTE: There will NOT be a bottle drop. Please come prepared.
Olympic 6mi | Sprint 3.1mi
Both courses are out-and-back courses on the newest section of Tennessee Riverwalk. Hydro stations with water and Powerade will be located approximately every mile on the course.
The course will be primarily on the Riverwalk with a short section on Riverfront Parkway, closed to traffic from the transition area to the Riverwalk trailhead just west of the race staging area. The Olympic course is 2 loops of the sprint course. See map for turnaround location to start 2nd loop.
With the course now being a 2 loop course for the Olympic racers, it is very important for runners to STAY LEFT throughout the course to keep a smooth flow and avoid head to head running and crossovers.
