The race staging is at the Guntersville Recreation Center.
The 600 yard sprint swim and 1 mile endurance swim are in Lake Guntersville. The course will be set up so you swim counter clockwise, keeping buoys on your left. The endurance distance completes two loops of a half mile. Swimmers exit and re-enter the water to complete the 2nd loop. See the swim map for distinguishing buoys to follow and be sure to listen to race staff instructions at the swim start should there be any changes to course design on race morning.
The swim will be conducted in a time-trial fashion. Race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time. A racer will enter the water approximately every 3 seconds, with relay teams and aquabike racers starting before individuals. Course buoys are placed to keep racers to stay on course. To assist you in determining your swim time, follow this pace chart provided by US Masters Swimming. Cyclorun racers will be advised when they can leave on the bike, as soon as the first swimmer enters the transition area.
There will be no moving up in swim order on race day. Pre-register by the Wednesday night before the race to get a spot in the swim order!!!! All registrants after that time will have the UPPER numbers and starting at the rear.
USA Triathlon Wet Suit Rules:
The water is expected to be around 80F. An official temperature will be announced race morning and an afternoon temperature will be announced on Friday at the racer meeting.
Article 4.4: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards.
The bike course is a 16.2 mile loop with a mix of residential and rural roads. It is flat and fast, with only a couple SMALL rolling hills. This course has only right hand turns, so do not turn unless it is marked, there is a sign, or a volunteer clearly tells you to turn. THE ENDURANCE DISTANCE COMPLETES TWO LOOPS OF THE SPRINT COURSE. There will be a water only bottle exchange point for the Endurance Bikers after they pass back by transition.
The run course is a 3 mile out-and-back on a paved running trail that winds along Lake Guntersville. This is one flat and fast run course! Please stay to your left on the running trail throughout the course to reduce congestion.
The endurance distance is two loops of the sprint course, for a total of 6 miles.
