Derek Stone, Nashville, TN
Derek's athletic career started off as a middle distance runner with a heavy focus on the mile and 1500m. He says, "I have always loved to move a fast as I can which is why I am going to put a heavy focus on short course racing this year. Short course races offer the ability to compete more often because you can recover a lot faster and have the rest of the day to enjoy with friends and family." You can find Derek at Team Magic events with his wife, Hannah, and his dog, Louis, supporting him and the other athletes on the course. He is also a USAT Certified Level 1 coach and owner of Milestone Racing TN.
Why Derek likes Team Magic Events: Music City Triathlon was one of the first Triathlons I completed in when I was reintroduced to the sport in 2016. The competition was fantastic and the volunteers were super helpful. I actually left my cycling shoes at home and my wife had to drive to Franklin to get them. Team Magic took care of it and had my cycling shoes next to my bike when I came out of the water! Team Magic events are always well organized and safe. My favorite race is Chattanooga Waterfront. The run course is fast and that’s my favorite portion of any triathlon!
Motivational quote: “It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle… when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
2018 Race Schedule: Music City St. Patricks Day 5k, Baptist Heath Capital of Dreams Triathlon, Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon, Music City Triathlon, Mt. Juliet Holiday Half Marathon
