Relay Team Rules & Information

THE BASICS

Triathlon: The relay team usually consists of one swimmer, one biker, and one runner. At Team Magic events, we will allow one of the relay members to do two of the "legs", meaning one person can choose to do two of the three sports and the other team member does one.

Duathlon: The relay team usually consists of one runner and one biker, with the runner completing both running legs of the event. At Team Magic races, we will allow two runners and one biker.

Can an individual racer also be a relay team member? At Team Magic races, YES they can. If you have trouble finding a person to complete your relay team, we will allow someone competing as an individual to do your first segment or first two segments of the event, then pass off the RELAY timing device to you. It is important for the individual racer to know that they have to go to the RELAY tent (as described below) to give the TEAM member the RELAY timing chip before they proceed with their own individual competition. The most popular example of this is an individual racer "doing the swim leg" for a team.

THE CATEGORIES

Awards will be presented to the top three teams for each of the following pre-registered Relay Teams. You must be pre-registered three weeks before the event to get a customized award. If within three weeks, you will receive an award, but not customized to your category:

Female, Male, Coed (mixed male and female) and Family

Important Note About Our Event Awards

Team Magic hopes you will join us after each race for the awards ceremony - this is the grand finale of each event and is held very soon after the final race finisher.

Our awards are most often product awards and a recognition award of your placement. Our policy is to not ship these awards or make them available for pick up once the award ceremony is over. While we hope all of you stay and enjoy a chance at our prize drawings, certainly we hope those who place in one of our published award categories will stay to celebrate their race by staying to claim their award. Award categories are available on each race web page.

Preliminary results will be posted as soon as possible at the race site - the location will be announced by our race announcer. If you see that you will be receiving an award but cannot stay for the ceremony, please designate a fellow racer, friend, or volunteer to claim your award. All awards not claimed at the race site will be distributed to race sponsors, city officials, race supporters and at future race prize drawings.

Complete race results will be posted on our web site as soon as possible after each event, usually within 24 hours.

HOW THE RELAY PROCESS IS CONDUCTED ON RACE DAY

  • Relay teams will be assigned a race number based on their estimated swim time for most Team Magic races unless otherwise noted in specific race notes.
  • Your team will use your assigned number for all of the following race logistics.
  • All relay team members need to be body marked with assigned team number.
  • Relay Team runner needs to have the race "bib" number and is required to present this number to pick up the TEAM timing chip and give to swimmer on race morning before start.
  • There is a tent in the transition area designated as the relay "timing chip" handoff area. All relays chip exchanges will take place under the tent. Please locate tent before race start! There will be a RELAY sign ON the tent.
  • The swimmer wears the timing chip during the swim. The swimmer will proceed to "relay exchange tent" and pass the chip to the biker in the exchange area ONLY.
  • The biker can be fully dressed with helmet and shoes on if they choose. Helmet number provided with race registration packet needs to be placed on the front of helmet.
  • Biker proceeds to your assigned bike rack, (bike racks are assigned by your race number range) gets bike and exits transition to start bike portion of race.
  • Biker returns to transition and racks bike in same assigned bike rack location. Biker proceeds to relay exchange tent and passes chip to runner. All exchanges of chips take place in this area ONLY to minimize congestion in the transition area.
  • Runner proceeds out of transition area from relay exchange tent with paper race "Bib" number on the front of their body.
  • Runner crosses finish line with paper race "Bib" number on front of their body.
  • Timing chip will be collected at that time. If lost, the team will incur a $35 charge.

Thank you and have a great time! If you have ANY questions on race day, ask someone in a GREEN Team Magic logo shirt.
