GJCC Memorial Day Triathlon
May 26 , 2008
200 meter pool swim / 8.5 mi bike / 2 mi run
Nashville, TN
WELCOME TO THE GJCC MEMORIAL DAY TRIATHLON!
Have you ever thought, "I wouldn't mind giving a triathlon a try." This is the perfect chance to just say you did one, or to start a new sport!
GREAT BEGINNER EVENT
To make this event attractive for a first triathlon the distances have been kept fairly short and the swim will be in the GJCC outdoor 50-meter (olympic size) a pool. The event is open to all competitors, but the focus will be on the beginner. Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall beginners, as well as top three beginner male and female in each age group! So, don't put it off. This race is for EVERYONE.
What is a Beginner?
Simple. A beginner is someone who has participated in three or fewer triathlons. It is the participants choice to race as a beginner or as an individual. There are special award categories for beginners.
Click here for TIPS for beginners.

The Swim: The swim is in a 50 meter outdoor pool. You will enter the pool in an "interval start" fashion. Participants line up by race number (beginning with the lowest number to the highest.) Your race number is assigned based on the estimated swim time you provided when you registered. You can choose to line up at the end if you prefer. One person at a time enters the pool and begins swimming when given the start command. Swim down the first lane, touch the wall, go under the lane rope, swim down that lane, and continue the same process until you exit after swimming four lengths for a total of 200 meters. While you are entering the pool by estimated swim time, someone may need to pass you. We encourage participants to pass ONLY at the wall. If someone taps your foot, please stop at the wall and let them go under the lane rope before you. When you exit the pool, volunteers will direct you to the transition area where you will begin your bike segment of the race.
The Bike: The bike course is a loop course on Hwy. 70, Hwy. 100, and Old Hickory Boulevard, with only one real climb about 0.2 mile long.
Race officials and police will monitor intersections and provide direction for bikers.
The Run: The run course will be 2 miles on out and back on residential roads surrounding the GJCC.
