Best of USA Amateur Competition Alabama State Qualifer
Welcome to the Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon!
This great triathlon tradition continues, celebrating 26 years in 2012. Join us at this beautiful Alabama State Park Venue for one of the longest running triathlons in Alabama. The race honors the life of Buster Britton - one of the Birmingham area's original triathletes that lost his life in a fun run after completing the Hawaii Ironman only a short time earlier. Buster was a true inspiration for triathletes as the sport began to take shape in Alabama.
This race is a great place for veterans of the sport to test their speed and for a beginner racer or weekend warrior to enjoy challenging but not long race distances. The swim is particularly inviting for those doing their first open water swim or that may view the swim as intimidating - Double Oak Lake is very calm and the swim is a very reasonable 400 yards.
Important Note about State Park Entrance Fee:
Racers and spectators will be charged a $3 park entrance fee on race day. The fee is waived for racers that show their confirmation email on Friday for packet pick up.
Once again, the Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon will qualify the top male and female state of Alabama resident for the Best of the USA Amateur Competition.
Good news for the the 2nd and 3rd place medalists from the Buster Britton Triathlon: For the BOUS championship race there will also be a Best of the U.S. Wave 2 consisting of the 2nd and 3rd place state medalists. First place finishers will still go out ahead of the field in the Champions Wave, as before. But Wave 2 athletes will have the chance to strut their stuff, too, as they will also be eligible for individual awards.
Plus, the presence of your Wave 2 teammates allows us to expand the Fastest State Team Competition to include awards for the Fastest Male Team and Fastest Female Team, as well as the Fastest Coed Team awards. Now more athletes than ever before have the chance to take home BOUS awards. More on BOUS rules.
