Course Detail


The race staging is about 0.6 miles from the Guntersvile Recreation Center. The Recreation Center will still offer showers to races and there is plentiful parking around the Recreation Center.

We will allow overnight bike check in - security will be provided. Bike check in is NOT MANDATORY but it will make your race morning much easier if you want to drop off the day before.

Main Staging Area- Transition Flow & Finish Line:

The race transition area is organized based on your assigned race number. The bike racks are marked by ranges of "7" numbers, beginning with 1 through 7 and so on. Bikes do not have to be racked in numerical order ON the rack, but must be placed on the rack designated for your race number range.  Sorry folks, for safety reasons, no balloons or items may be attached to racks to help locate your spot.  Feel free to bring your sidewalk chalk.  

There will be no changing of start position on race day. Pre-register by the Wednesday before the race to get a spot in the swim order!!!! All registrants after that time will have the UPPER numbers and be starting at the rear, sorry, no exceptions.

Swim Course

The sprint swim course is 600 yards and endurance distance is 1 mile -  in Lake Guntersville. The course will be set up so you swim counter clockwise, keeping buoys on your left. The endurance distance completes two loops of a half mile. Swimmers exit and re-enter the water to complete the 2nd loop. See the swim map for distinguishing buoys to follow and be sure to listen to race staff instructions at the swim start should there be any changes to course design on race morning.

The swim will be conducted in a time-trial fashion. Race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time. A racer will enter the water approximately every 3 seconds, with relay teams starting before individuals. Aquabike racers will start based on estimated swim time. Course buoys are placed to keep racers to stay on course. To assist you in determining your swim time, follow this pace chart provided by US Masters Swimming.

There will be no moving up in swim order on race day. Pre-register by the Wednesday night before the race to get a spot in the swim order!!!! All registrants after that time will have the UPPER numbers and be starting at the rear, sorry, no exceptions. 

Cyclorun racers will be advised when they can leave on the bike, as soon as the first swimmer enters the transition area.


USA Triathlon Wet Suit Rules:
The water is expected to be around 80F. An official temperature will be announced race morning and an afternoon temperature will be announced on Friday at the racer meeting.

Article 4.4: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards.

Bike Course
The bike course is a 16.2 mile loop with a mix of residential and rural roads. It is flat and fast, with only a couple SMALL rolling hills. This course has only right hand turns, so do not turn unless it is marked, there is a sign, or a volunteer clearly tells you to turn. THE ENDURANCE DISTANCE COMPLETES TWO LOOPS OF THE SPRINT COURSE.  There will be a bottle exchange point for the Endurance Bikers before they pass back by transition. Water only.

Run Course

The sprint run course is a 3 mile out-and-back on a paved running trail that winds along Lake Guntersville. This is one flat and fast run course! Please try to stay to your left on the running trail going out to the first turnaround and you will be directed to the right side of the trail as you pass transition. Continue on your right around a 2nd turnaround loop back ot the finish, adjacent to the swim and transition area.  

The endurance distance is an 8 mile run, also using the greenway sprint course, plus a segment on the adjacent roads.

Post Race Activities:

Great lakeside awards ceremony.  Facilities for showering will be available at the Guntersville Recreation Center. Plenty of food and drink for participants and volunteers. Please remind your family members that they need to bring snacks and drinks. Thanks!
