CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF TRIATHLON IN GUNTERSVILLE! This race was held for the first time 30 years ago at Lake Guntersville State Park. We are so happy this community continues to support hosting this event and our great customers!
Now in the heart of the City of Guntersville, don't miss our fastest sprint triathlon, plus NEW for 2017, we are adding an endurance distance (1 mile swim | 32.4 mile bike | 8 mile run.) This race has become the favorite for participants from Beginners to the Elite due to the flat, fast course, great post-race party, and of course the infamous tie-dye shirts and beach towels. This race has held the honor of USAT Sprint National Championship. With the addition of the endurance distance, there is an option for everyone!
The sprint distance race has been designated as the USA Triathlon Southeast Regional Sprint Triathlon Championship. Members from the USAT Southeast Regional Council will be on site to distribute special awards to winners.
The city of Guntersville offers a warm welcome with great community support from local police & emergency management and from local volunteer groups including the Guntersville Rescue Squad, Guntersville Seniors, Local Boy Scout Troop, Canoe and Kayak club and the Parks & Recreation Department.
See the site overview HERE.
This race venue is extremely spectator friendly and a great course for beginners due to calm swim, flat courses, and a great mix of beginners and fast folks participating.
Swim Course: Very calm open water swim in Lake Guntersville, with the entrance and exit typically shallow enough to touch bottom. For the new endurance course, we suspect the water level to be deeper at the furthest points of the one-mile swim.
Bike Course: Definitely one of our fastest courses. The route is all right-hand turns on mostly rural / neighborhood roads with some nice farm scenery and cool finish across the lake as you approach the race venue. Very slight rolling hills in a couple of spots, but most our racers describe it as FLAT. The new endurance course is two loops of the sprint, for a total of 32.4 miles.
Run Course: The entire run for the sprint distance is on a paved greenway along Lake Guntersville. Pure out and back course and FLAT. With the new transition area being close to the middle of the trail, the run will actually be a figure 8 on the Greenway. The endurance run has a section of course on roads adjacent to the greenway. See the course maps for complete instructions. Some of our best race photos all year long come from Mountain Lakes as the lake is your run course backdrop.
