Mountain Lakes Triathlon
|Date||Saturday, August 10|
Brought to you in part by our supporting bike shop, Cahaba Cycles.
A 2013 SE Region Junior Talent ID Series Event...Don't miss our fastest sprint triathlon in beautiful Guntersville, AL. This race has become the favorite for participants from Beginners to the Elite due to the flat, fast course, great post-race pool side party, and of course the infamous tie-dye shirts and beach towels! This race has held the honor of USAT Sprint National Championship.
New for 2013, there will be a Kids Splash and Dash!
The city of Guntersville definitely gives racers a warm welcome with great community support from local police & emergency management and from local volunteer groups including the Guntersville Rescue Squad, Guntersville Seniors, High School Band and Band Boosters, Canoe and Kayak club and the Parks & Recreation Department.
We do expect this race to sell out early, so be sure to register prior to the week of the race. We also encourage racers to pick up race packets on Friday night if possible.
RACE LIMIT: 938 participants
Register early and tell your friends to guarantee your spots!
The Mountain Lakes Triathlon is a part of the 2013 SE Region Junior Talent ID Series coached by Kathleen Johnston and Caroline Butler of TriSuccess. The following Team Magic events are part of the series: Buster Britton & Music City Sprint
This race venue is extremely spectator friendly and a great course for beginners due to calm swim, flat courses, and a great mix of beginners and fast folks to model after!
Swim Course: Very calm open water swim in Lake Guntersville. The water level is typically shallow enough to allow swimmers to touch bottom through much of the course...making this course very attractive for first-time open water swimmers. The water is historically above 78 °F so likely no wetsuits allowed (USA Triathlon rules do not allow wetsuits in water over 78 °F).
Bike Course: Definitely one of our fastest courses. The route is all right-hand turns on mostly rural / neighborhood roads with some nice farm scenery and cool finish across the lake as you approach the race venue. Very slight rolling hills in a couple of spots, but most our racers describe it as FLAT.
Run Course: The entire run is on a paved greenway along Lake Guntersville. Pure out and back course and FLAT. Some of our best race photos all year long come from Mountain Lakes as the lake is your run course backdrop.
