Becomes Title Sponsor of
Alabama Coastal Triathlon
New $4,990 Cash Purse
Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL—The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission
proudly announces that Brett/Robinson Vacation Rentals has become the title
sponsor of the Alabama Coastal Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, May 3,
2008.
“The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission is excited to have Brett/Robinson
as the title sponsor for the triathlon,” said Michelle Russ, Sports and
Events Sales Manager for the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission. “We are
expecting over 500 athletes from across the country to participate in this
second year event. Team Magic has an excellent reputation in the triathlon
world and we are excited to be partnering with them once again in 2008.
Likewise, Marie Curren, Director of Marketing and Reservations for
Brett/Robinson Vacation Rentals, shares the same sentiment.
“We are delighted to be part of this great sporting event,” Curren said.
“There is no better place to enjoy the scenic beauty offered by the Alabama
Gulf Coast.”
Returning to Gulf Shores for the second year, the triathlon will include a
1,000 yard swim in the gulf followed by 19.5 mile bike and then a 4.6 mile
run to the finish line. In 2006, 226 athletes participated in this event,
which is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and serves as the organization’s
Intermediate Distance Alabama State Championships.
The Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon is a production of the Alabama
Gulf Coast Sports Commission and Team Magic, a race management team with
over 30 years of experience.

Stephen
Taylor, official multisport coach for Team Magic, will be hosting
Vanderbilt Triathlon Boot Camp this weekend, Jan 18-20. The
event--scheduled from Friday night to Sunday noon--consists of classroom
sessions and workouts in all three sports. The Vandy Tri club will be
kicking their training into high gear to get ready for Collegiate Nationals,
but community members can participate in this hardcore training as well.

In three short weeks Stephen will be hosting a clinic of special interest
to intermediate-advanced triathletes, long course racers, and long
distance runners. Training with Heart Rate Cycling and Running clinic will
be Feb 9 from 8-12. Presenters will include Bruce Gennari, national
triathlon champion and masters triathlete of the year; Jamie Dial, elite
ultramarathoner; and Stephen Taylor. Expect to learn training strategies
from all three of these athlete/coaches.

2008 Southeast Triathlon Expo Welcomes Triathletes

Mark you calendars now for the return of the most talked about multisport
event in the Southeast Region. The USAT-SE Region is again partnering with
the Tennessee Chapter of Team In Training to host the 2008 Southeast
Triathlon Expo on Saturday January 26, 2008. The event will feature a wide
variety of local and national multisport vendors and organizations as well
as informative clinics and an exciting multisport fashion show showcasing
the latest styles from Pearl Izumi, Sugoi, Louis Garneau, Splish and others.
The highlight of the Expo will be guest appearances by Ironman specialist
Michael Lovato, 2008 Olympic contender Sara McLarty and USOC sports
nutrition expert Bob Seebohar. Michael will deliver an entertaining
presentation of what it takes to win an Ironman Triathlon, while Sara will
talk about her journey from IronKids National Champion to USAT resident team
athlete, Aquathlon World Champion and Olympic hopeful. Bob will present
cutting edge information on nutrition periodization for triathletes. You
will not want to miss this opportunity to pick up training tips from a top
nutritionist and the best long course and shorts course triathletes in the
USA! Michael, Sara and Bob will also participate in a panel discussion with
top USAT-SE regional athletes and be available to answer questions and sign
autographs at various booths at the Expo.
The 2008 Southeast Triathlon Expo will be held at the state-of-the-art
Curb Event Center on the Belmont University Campus in Nashville from 10 a.m.
until 4 p.m. on Saturday January 26. For directions to the venue and to

including a complete Orbea Ora Ultegra bike, plenty of swag and a free lunch
provided by Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ for all attendees. The 2007 USAT-SE Regional
awards will also be presented at the expo. The expo and clinics are free and
open to anyone with an interest in learning more about a multisport
lifestyle. Limited vendor space is still available and can be reserved by

The USAT-SE Region is excited to be partnering with Team In Training to
educate the local and regional sports community about the resources that
these organizations can offer to new and experienced athletes. Mark the
