Thorsten Oelschlaeger, Northport, AL
Thorsten was born in Germany and spent his teenage days playing basketball. He eventually injured his knees and had to quit exercising and gained a lot of weight. Then “life happened” – moving to the US and long work hours and he gained more weight. He realized he needed to make a change and triathlon became a big part of that. He credits Team Magic for being part of the “new me”. Thorsten is a member of the Mountain Bike Search and Rescue Team at Lake Lurleen State Park and his “Tuscaloosa Triathlon Tribe” participates in workdays on the local trails. He won the Clydesdale division of Team Magic’s race series in 2015 and qualified for USAT Nationals in 2016 at the Capital of Dreams Triathlon.
Why Thorsten likes Team Magic events: Every single one of the five Team Magic races I did over the past two years was super fun and I have a lot of great memories. I absolutely love the passion, fire and excitement that Team Magic presents. Capitol of Dreams was my second triathlon ever and it was also the first triathlon for my wife the year after.
Motivational Quote: Do what's right for you, tackle your own challenges and enjoy Triathlon. Not all of us are a Jan Frodeno or Gwen Jorgensen, most of us won't ever win an entire race or their Age Group...and that's fine! We're in this sport for many different reasons. Personally, I started with the goal to improve my health. I was barely able to run a mile and hadn’t ridden a bike in 15 years or swum a lap in a pool in almost 20 years.
2017 Race Schedule: Capital of Dreams Tri, Buster Britton Tri, Alabama Coastal Tri and maybe Chattanooga Waterfront Tri and Music City Tri
